Privacy Policy
Last updated: 13 July 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Neibrz ("Neibrz", "we", "us") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use the Neibrz mobile application and related services (the "Service"). We are committed to data minimisation and to complying with India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (the "DPDP Act").
1. Who this applies to
Neibrz is intended for users in India who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
2. Information we collect
a. Account information
- Your Google account identifier and email address when you sign in with Google.
- A display name and a unique @username you choose, and an optional bio.
b. Location information
- Your device location, used to show posts near you and to place your own posts on the neighborhood feed. Before a post is stored we blur its coordinates to a coarse grid (roughly 100 metres); other users only ever see an approximate distance (for example "~300m away"), never your exact position, unless you explicitly choose to attach an exact location to an individual post.
- If you turn on notifications, we also store your device's most recent location so we can alert you to activity near you. This location is used to match you to nearby posts and to show an approximate count of how many people are near you (for example "5+" or "10+"). That count is always rounded and grouped so it can never identify or reveal any individual, and your own location is never shown to other users. Members of our team may access it to operate the Service and keep it safe. We remove it when you turn notifications off, after a period of inactivity, or when you delete your account.
c. Content you create
- The text of posts, comments, and reactions you create, and whether each post is public or anonymous.
- The text of private messages (direct messages) you send in one-to-one chats, and who the participants are. Direct messages are not end-to-end encrypted (see section 10); we can access them where necessary for safety, moderation, to respond to a report, or to comply with law.
- Photos you upload: your profile picture and any images you attach to a post. To protect your privacy, we remove embedded metadata (such as camera GPS location and device details) from images on your device before they are uploaded, so an image you share never reveals your precise location.
- Who you follow and who you mute.
d. Device and technical information
- A pseudonymous device identifier (the OS-provided vendor/device id), plus device platform, brand, model, OS version, app version, and last-seen time, used for security, abuse prevention, and delivering notifications.
- A push notification token (if you enable notifications).
We do not collect your phone number for normal accounts, and we do not collect hardware identifiers such as IMEI, serial number, MAC address, or advertising IDs.
3. About anonymous posts
When you post anonymously, your name and username are hidden from other users. Anonymity is presentation-only: for safety, moderation, and abuse prevention, every post remains linked to your account in our systems. We may reveal identity information where required to comply with law or to address serious safety or abuse issues.
4. How we use your information
- To operate the neighborhood feed and show nearby and followed content.
- To send notifications you have opted into (nearby posts and posts from people you follow).
- To keep the Service safe: prevent spam, abuse, and fraud, and enforce our Terms.
- To provide support and respond to your requests.
5. Consent
We ask for your consent separately and specifically for distinct purposes (for example, location access and notifications are each their own prompt). You can withdraw consent at any time from your device settings or in the app; withdrawing certain consents may limit related features.
6. Sharing and processors
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with service providers who process it on our behalf under contract, including:
- Supabase (database, authentication, and backend hosting).
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging (delivering push notifications).
- Google (sign-in).
We may also disclose data if required by law or to protect rights and safety.
7. Data retention and account deletion
We keep your account data while your account is active. Posts remain until you delete them or delete your account. Direct messages remain until you or the other participant deletes them or deletes an account, and deleted messages are purged after a short period. Pseudonymous device records, and any device location we store for notifications, are removed after a period of inactivity.
You can permanently delete your account and all associated personal data at any time, in either of two ways:
- In the app: go to Profile → Delete account and confirm.
- On the web (including if you have uninstalled the app): visit neibrz.com/delete-account, sign in with the Google account you use for Neibrz, and confirm.
Deletion is immediate and irreversible. It removes your profile, username and bio, your profile picture and any photos you attached to posts, your posts, comments, likes and follows, your direct messages and conversations, your muted and blocked users, registered devices, any stored device location, push notification settings and consent records. We delete or irreversibly anonymise this personal data, except where limited retention is required by law. If you would rather request deletion by email, contact privacy@neibrz.com from your account email address and we will action it within 30 days.
8. Your rights
Under the DPDP Act you may:
- Access and correct your personal data.
- Delete your account and associated personal data, from within the app or online at neibrz.com/delete-account (see Section 7).
- Withdraw consent.
- Raise a grievance with our Grievance Officer (see Section 9).
9. Grievance Officer
In line with the DPDP Act and India's Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, you can contact our Grievance Officer to raise concerns about your data or about content and conduct on Neibrz:
- Name: Mani Deva
- Email: grievance@neibrz.com
We acknowledge complaints within 24 hours and aim to resolve them within 15 days. See our Community Guidelines for how reporting, blocking, and moderation work.
10. Security
We use access controls and row-level security so users can only reach data they are permitted to. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data.
Data, including your direct messages, is encrypted in transit and at rest. Direct messages are not end-to-end encrypted. This means that, while other users cannot read your private conversations, authorised members of our team can access message content where necessary to respond to a report, keep the Service safe, or comply with a lawful request. If privacy from the platform itself is essential to you, please do not share sensitive information in chat.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. Material changes will be notified in the app or on this page, with the "Last updated" date revised.
